Title I, Part A (Title I) of the Elementary and Secondary Education Act, as amended (ESEA) provides financial assistance to local educational agencies (LEAs) and schools with high numbers or high percentages of children from low-income families to help ensure that all children meet challenging state academic standards.
Purpose
The purpose of Title I, Part A of Public Law 107-110 is to enable schools to provide opportunities for children served to acquire the knowledge and skills contained in the challenging state content standards and to meet the challenging state performance standards developed for all children.
This purpose is accomplished by such efforts as:
Eligible Schools
Eligibility for participation in Title I in York School District One is determined by pupils in poverty reports. While all schools in York School District One are Title I eligible, the three schools with the highest free/reduced lunch participation rates are designated as Title I school-wide programs: Harold C. Johnson Elementary, Hunter Street Elementary, and Jefferson Elementary.
Funding
York School District One’s Title I allocation for the 2020-21 year is $1,310,045.07. Funds this year provide for class size reduction in the three schools at all grade levels; professional development; purchasing books and literacy supplies, online curriculum and technology; providing student incentives; and parent involvement activities. An interpreter is also available at HCJES through the use of Title I funds, and parent educators work with families to improve school readiness.
Input and Suggestions
The district welcomes input into the Title One plan through involvement in the planning team, offering input via surveys, or otherwise providing input via phone calls, email, or personal conversations. Interested parties may contact Lisa Spangler in the district office or the principals at any of our Title I schools.
Parent Involvement
Parent participation and involvement are encouraged in all Title I Schools through parent sessions, attending parent conferences, serving on committees, offering recommendations and suggestions, and attending workshops and family events.
